PORCELAIN VENEERS AND CROWNS

We have placed porcelain on your teeth. These restorations were placed with the finest materials and techniques available today. However, you should be aware of the following information about your restorations.

CHEWING: As with natural teeth, avoid chewing excessively hard foods on veneered teeth. (hard candy, ice, raw carrots, bones, etc.) Porcelain material can be broken from the teeth, under extreme forces.

RECALLS: Visit us for examinations and check-ups at regular three to six-month examination periods. Often problems that are developing with the restorations can be found at an early stage and repaired easily, while waiting for a longer time may require redoing entire restorations.

PREVENTIVE PROCEDURES: To provide optimum longevity for your restorations and prevent future decay and supporting tissue breakdown, please brush with a fluoride containing toothpaste and floss regularly.

THE FUTURE: We expect that you will receive many years of service from your veneers. However, after watching veneers for many years, we have seen the following situations occasionally occur. They are unavoidable and may require restoration replacement:

  1. Extreme force or trauma can break veneers just as they would natural teeth.
  2. After a few years, there may be some slight stains at some locations around the edges. Please let us know and repairs usually can be made.
  3. The gum tissue may recede from the veneer, displaying a discolored tooth structure underneath. This usually takes several years and requires veneer replacement.
  4. Within one year we will cover the cost of any repairs necessary including the replacement of the restoration. After the first year the replacement and or repair is the obligation of the patient.
